First, check your inhaler’s counter to ensure you have doses remaining. If it’s low, contact your doctor or pharmacist for a refill.
Prepare your inhaler: Remove the protective cap. Shake well: Shake the inhaler vigorously for at least 5 seconds to mix the medication. Breathe out: Breathe out completely, emptying your lungs as much as possible. Position the inhaler: Hold the inhaler upright, with the mouthpiece facing upwards. Place your thumb on the base and your index and middle fingers on the top. Bring to your mouth: Hold the inhaler in your mouth, placing the mouthpiece between your teeth and closing your lips around it. Do not bite down on the mouthpiece. Inhale slowly and deeply: Press down on the top of the inhaler to release one dose, as you begin to breathe in slowly and deeply. Continue breathing in slowly for 3-5 seconds to ensure you take in the medication. Hold your breath: Hold your breath for 10 seconds. This allows the medicine to settle in your lungs. Breathe out: Slowly breathe out. Rinse your mouth: Rinse your mouth with water and spit it out. This helps prevent thrush (a fungal infection). Repeat: If your doctor prescribed more than one puff, wait about one minute before repeating steps 4-9. Clean your inhaler: Wipe the mouthpiece of your inhaler with a dry tissue or cloth after each use. Refer to your inhaler’s packaging for more thorough cleaning instructions.
If you experience any difficulty using your inhaler, or have questions about the dosage, consult your doctor or pharmacist. They can provide personalized advice and demonstrations.
- Important Note: Never share your inhaler with anyone else. Storage: Store your inhaler upright at room temperature and away from direct heat or sunlight.
