Monitor blood pressure and heart rate continuously during and after IV labetalol administration. Bradycardia is a common side effect; slow IV infusion rates help mitigate this. If bradycardia develops, temporarily halt the infusion and consider administering atropine.
Hypotension Management
Hypotension, another potential adverse effect, requires immediate attention. Reduce the infusion rate or temporarily stop it. Place the patient in a supine position with legs elevated. Intravenous fluids may be necessary to restore blood volume. Closely monitor vital signs and adjust treatment accordingly. Consider using vasopressors if hypotension is severe and unresponsive to fluid resuscitation.
Other Adverse Effects
Less common but still possible side effects include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and fatigue. These are often mild and self-limiting. Supportive measures, such as antiemetics for nausea and vomiting, may be appropriate. For severe or persistent symptoms, consult with a physician to adjust the medication regimen or consider alternative therapies.
